Woven in Silver: The Georg Jensen Weft Collection

From the moment it first opened its doors to the city of Copenhagen 122 years ago, Georg Jensen has approached the world of luxury jewellery a little differently from its peers. The then-modest silversmith nestled in the heart of the Danish capital was founded by a sculptor, the eponymous Georg Arthur Jensen, an origin which current Creative Director Paula Gerbase calls ‘highly unusual’ and which has heralded the artistic, design-led philosophy embraced by the company ever since.

The Weft collection, which debuted in May 2026, is the first of its kind to be released under Gerbase’s tenure, representing a natural continuation of the brand’s creative genesis whilst offering a distinctly fresh outlook on the House’s archival codes. For this, Georg Jensen has returned to the foundational principles of its identity and design ethos; eschewing gold, diamonds, gemstones, and fussier arrangements, the Weft collection is rendered entirely in sterling silver, exploring a single, coherent theme through unique and architectural reproductions.

Where Past and Present Meet: Behind the Georg Jensen Weft Collection

The inspiration from which the collection draws is, as the name suggests, the tactile craft of woven fabric – in weaving, a ‘weft’ is the thread that is passed across the fixed warp threads to create cloth. This ancient textile art has been faithfully reimagined by the designers at Georg Jensen, where sterling silver replaces thread in this contemporary tapestry of structure, fluidity, and ever-shifting dynamism.

As stated in an interview she gave to RUSSH following Weft’s release, Gerbase describes the process of familiarising herself with the House’s archive upon her appointment as Creative Director in 2024, explaining how Georg Jensen’s earlier works embodied a sense of playfulness and lightness of touch towards which she felt immediately drawn. The dynamism and fluidity of the archival pieces especially captured her imagination, with elements such as delicate silver wire filigree detailing reemerging as a core tenet of Weft’s design language.

This preoccupation with materials and the ways in which they may be manipulated played a formative role in shaping Weft. When Gerbase envisioned what a Georg Jensen collection released under her direction might look like, her mind inevitably struck upon the metals for which the House was known and with which she might experiment. The nature of silver in particular sat at the forefront of her mind as she studied the House’s archives, observing its almost paradoxical qualities – both strength and fragility in equal measure; the way it is shaped over time and oxidises through wear, forging familiar lines through daily use. This led to the conception of Weft as a collection that would understand and even embrace the ontology of its own design, translating silver’s innate mercuriality through a motif of perpetual movement and flexion

Thus, the idea of woven fabric was a natural conceptual axis around which to shape the collection, the threads of its densely layered tapestries belying the thousands of minute movements, techniques, and fastenings which hold it together and lend it structure and form. This sense of stability created through fluidity is mirrored in the construction of the Weft collection’s pieces: silver wire is twisted delicately through individual links, which are then hooked together by hand and secured by an internal chain running through the centre. The unique ‘open’ construction of the jewellery creates an almost skeletonised effect, allowing the wearer to peer into the piece and see how it was built even as it sits against the skin.

The way in which the jewellery is worn, and whom exactly it might be worn by, was another important consideration in Gerbase’s creative process. Arriving at Georg Jensen with an extensive background in fashion and Savile Row tailoring, she was already familiar with designing wearables and garments; what she now had to contend with, however, was the unparalleled intimacy of jewellery – the way it sits flush against skin, how it silently yet faithfully accompanies the wearer through the rhythms and cycles of life.

By collapsing the barriers between designer and customer in such a way, Gerbase gained a clearer image of who she was creating for, and how a collection might best serve them. The ‘Georg Jensen character’ as she imagined it would be someone dynamic and in perpetual flux, who has a very distinct sense of themselves and the objects they introduce into their life and their visual ecosystem. Thus, the Weft collection embraces this sense of flux by choice, becoming a collection that, in her own words, “celebrat[es] a controlled imperfection … that speak[s] not just of the original design, but also of the life lived wearing those pieces.”

Spanning earrings, necklaces, and bracelets, each piece of the Weft collection shares the same hand-hooked construction and open silhouette that define its visual identity, whilst interpreting its woven language at a different scale, from a delicate three-link drop to a sculptural triple-link bracelet. Whether you are discovering Georg Jensen for the first time or adding to a treasured collection, Weft offers a beautifully considered introduction to the House’s newest chapter.

Weft Collection Earrings

Weft’s sense of movement finds its most immediate expression in the earrings, where the collection’s hand-hooked links are left to fall freely from the lobe. Each design is completed by a small, suspended silver orb, a detail inspired by the beaded contour of the historic Georg Jensen hallmark that the House has traditionally applied to pieces crafted in precious metals. Swaying and catching the light with every turn of the head, the orb lends each pair a gentle, pendulous rhythm and a discreet nod to more than a century of heritage.

The Weft Three Link Earrings offer the most understated interpretation of the design, their compact 42mm drop making them an elegant everyday companion that transitions effortlessly from daytime to evening. Lengthening the silhouette, the Weft Five Link Earrings extend to 60mm, the additional links lending a more pronounced fluidity as they move with the wearer. For those drawn to drama, the Weft Eleven Link Earrings descend to an impressive 110mm, their elongated cascade of silver evoking a single thread drawn from the loom – a striking choice for festive occasions, particularly when paired with an upswept hairstyle or an open neckline. Finally, the Weft Double Earrings introduce a layered, double-chain arrangement in which links of differing sizes are set in conversation with one another, creating a depth and texture that bring the collection’s woven inspiration into sharp focus.

Weft Collection Necklaces

Around the neck, the Weft collection takes on a more architectural quality. The internal chain that runs through each design forms a spine around which the hand-hooked links are gathered, giving the necklaces real structural presence whilst allowing them to drape and settle against the collarbone with all the suppleness of fine knitwear.

The Weft Slim Necklace is the most delicate of the three, its 6mm profile and generous 55cm length allowing it to rest lightly upon the décolletage. Worn alone, it offers a refined, minimalist accent; layered, it becomes the ideal counterpart to the collection’s bolder designs. The Weft Single Link Necklace broadens to 10mm and is available in two lengths, 41cm and 45cm, so that its exposed construction may follow the natural line of the body with ease. For a more commanding statement, the Weft Double Link Necklace brings together two rows of interlocking links in a 16mm band, also offered in both lengths, its layered structure lending a satisfying sense of weight and fluid movement against the skin. Styled together, the Slim and Single Link necklaces create a richly textured neckline that captures the very essence of the collection: threads of silver, layered one upon another.

Weft Collection Bracelets

Perhaps nowhere is the tension between strength and fragility more keenly felt than on the wrist, where the Weft bracelets pair a substantial, sculptural presence with an almost textile-like pliability. As with the necklaces, an internal chain runs through each design to secure the hand-hooked links from within, allowing the bracelet to flex and move with every gesture.

The Weft Double Link Bracelet presents two rows of interwoven links in a 16mm band, its defined yet flexible form making it equally suited to daily wear and special occasions. The Weft Triple Link Bracelet expands to an impressive 26mm, its denser construction making it the boldest piece in the collection whilst retaining a fluid, responsive movement on the wrist. Both designs are available in three sizes: small (180mm), medium (195mm), and large (210mm), and our team will be delighted to help you find the perfect fit in any of our showrooms.
