Licence to Thrill: The New OMEGA James Bond
Share
Internet sleuths and horologically inclined digital detectives might have noticed some unusual additions to the official OMEGA website over the past few weeks. Linger long enough on one of their webpages, and you may catch the header image flickering into James Bond’s modern-era Spectre logo; go rifling through the source code, and the same motif can be found cleverly depicted as ASCII art.
These subtle, 007-themed hints have given rise to much speculation, as the brand has been the exclusive outfitter of the secret agent’s onscreen timepieces since GoldenEye in 1995 – and the anticipation amongst enthusiasts for a new James Bond-inspired release was finally confirmed on Monday, 5th October, with the introduction of the Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond and Spectre collection.
This release marks the very first union of the James Bond and Spectre identities under a single horological umbrella, spanning six new Seamaster Diver 300M timepieces that offer a fresh and thoroughly modern take on two of the most iconic names in the 007 universe. Half of the models bear the symbol of James Bond whilst the other three carry the tentacled symbol of Spectre, creating a novel juxtaposition between the universe’s forces for good and evil that speak to the inherent duality that defines human nature. When duty exists alongside independence, discipline alongside freedom, and loyalty alongside personal ambition, only one question remains – which side will you choose?
The OMEGA Seamaster and James Bond: A Daring History
When Pierce Brosnan first stepped into the role of 007 in GoldenEye, costume designer Lindy Hemming made a decision that would define the secret agent’s wrist for the next three decades. Her choice fell upon the OMEGA Seamaster Professional Diver 300M, whose blue wave dial and scalloped bezel suited Brosnan’s suave interpretation of a Royal Navy Commander perfectly. Bond has worn an OMEGA Seamaster in every film since, and the partnership has grown into one of the most enduring relationships between a watchmaker and a fictional character.
Brosnan’s tenure later saw a move to the automatic Seamaster Professional (ref. 2531.80), before Daniel Craig brought a rougher, more physical Bond to the screen in Casino Royale, alternating between the Seamaster Diver 300M and the larger, bolder Planet Ocean. Craig’s final outing, No Time to Die, introduced perhaps the most purposeful Bond watch of the modern era: a lightweight titanium Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition with a tropical brown dial and a fine titanium mesh bracelet. That last detail finds a fitting echo in the mesh bracelets of this new collection.
In 2026, the partnership ventured beyond the cinema screen for the very first time. 007 First Light, an action-adventure video game developed by IO Interactive, launched on 27th May and tells an original story of a younger Bond becoming an international secret agent and earning his licence to kill. At the heart of his missions sits an OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph, fitted with a hacking device capable of disrupting electronic equipment and a laser concealed within its strap.
Rather than leave the watch in the virtual world, OMEGA brought it into reality with the Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph 007 First Light, the first chronograph in the history of Bond’s Seamaster Diver 300M. Powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9900, it arrives on a black, grey and beige striped NATO strap that recalls the palette of No Time To Die, with keepers engraved with ‘007’ and ‘First Light’. Unfortunately, the laser remains a feature reserved for the virtual world.
A Force for Good: The OMEGA Seamaster 300M James Bond Edition
The James Bond side of the collection is dressed in the deep, royal blues of the open ocean, a fitting palette for both a Commander in the Royal Navy and the latest entry into OMEGA’s iconic dive watch collection. It comprises three pieces: one stainless-steel edition available individually, and a limited-edition set that pairs a second stainless-steel model with one crafted in platinum-gold.
The Stainless-Steel Edition
The individually available James Bond edition pairs a 42mm polished-brushed stainless-steel case with a uni-directional bezel in grade 5 titanium, its diving scale laser-ablated in positive relief so that the numerals stand proud of the surface. Beneath the domed sapphire crystal lies a blue aluminium dial laser-engraved with OMEGA’s signature waves, punctuated by rhodium-plated, diamond-polished hour markers and a coat of arms index at 12 o’clock. The Super-LumiNova has been thoughtfully choreographed: the hour markers, hour hand and seconds hand glow blue, whilst the minute hand glows green to match the dot on the bezel – a practical touch for any diver tracking elapsed time in the dark.
Turn the watch over, and its true allegiance reveals itself. The Naiad Lock caseback, which ensures that every engraving sits in perfect alignment, frames a flat sapphire crystal through which the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 can be admired. Its rotor carries a rhodium-plated rendition of the famous gun-barrel sequence, complete with the 007 logo, which turns with every movement of the wrist. With a 55-hour power reserve, water resistance to 300 metres, and a brushed stainless-steel mesh bracelet, this is a watch as capable as it is ruggedly handsome.
The Limited-Edition Set
For collectors seeking something rarer still, the James Bond Limited Edition is restricted to 77 numbered sets, and neither watch within it can be purchased separately. The first is a stainless-steel model that mirrors the individual edition, distinguished by a plate at 9 o’clock engraved with its limited-edition number and a caseback bearing the words ‘LIMITED EDITION’.
The second is the undisputed showpiece of the collection. Its 42mm case is crafted in platinum-gold and paired with a polished blue ceramic bezel ring, upon which the diving scale is executed in platinum. The dial is cut from 18ct white gold and finished with a blue PVD gradient and a gun-barrel pattern, whilst the hour markers and hands are also fashioned from 18ct white gold. On the reverse, the gun-barrel emblem on the rotor is rendered in OMEGA’s exclusive 18ct Moonshine™ Gold against blue PVD. A dark blue leather strap with a polished-brushed platinum-gold buckle completes the picture.
Both watches are delivered together in a single blue presentation box, accompanied by an additional NATO strap and strap-changing tool, cufflinks, a cord bracelet, a loupe, a blue leather travel pouch, a card holder, and a certificate of authenticity.
Lurking in the Shadows: The OMEGA Seamaster 300M Spectre Edition
Where the Bond models evoke open water and blue skies, the Spectre editions retreat into the shadowy embrace of total darkness. Every surface is rendered in black, and the fictional organisation’s octopoid emblem takes the place of the gun barrel. As on the Bond side, the line-up comprises one stainless-steel edition available individually as well as a limited-edition set of 77 numbered pairs.
The Stainless-Steel Edition
The Spectre edition shares the 42mm polished-brushed stainless-steel case and Calibre 8806 of its blue-faced counterpart, but trades titanium for a black ceramic bezel ring that sports a laser-ablated diving scale in positive relief. The blackened, grained dial has a subtle texture that catches the light at every angle, and the bright Super-LumiNova markers stand out against it with striking clarity. In place of the coat of arms, a double baton marks 12 o’clock – Spectre, after all, answers to no authority greater than itself.
The true intrigue lies on the reverse, where the Naiad Lock caseback is engraved with the word ‘SPECTRE’, and through the sapphire crystal a blackened Spectre logo forms part of the rotor, its eight tentacles sweeping across the movement with every turn. The watch is presented on a brushed stainless-steel mesh bracelet and delivered in a black presentation box.
The Limited-Edition Set
The Spectre Limited Edition follows the same format as its Bond counterpart: 77 numbered sets, each containing two watches that are not sold separately. The stainless-steel model carries its limited-edition number on a plate at 9 o’clock, with ‘LIMITED EDITION’ engraved alongside ‘SPECTRE’ on the caseback.
Its platinum-gold partner is a truly sinister piece of high jewellery, dazzling in its effusively elegant debauchery. A polished black ceramic bezel ring with a platinum diving scale surrounds an 18ct white gold dial finished in a dark grey PVD gradient, across which a spectral octopus pattern unfurls in rippling relief. Turn it over, and the Spectre emblem on the rotor is executed in 18ct Moonshine™ Gold, glinting tantalisingly against the movement. The watch is fitted to a black leather strap with a polished-brushed platinum-gold buckle.
The set arrives in a single black presentation box with the same generous selection of accessories as the Bond edition. Here, however, the strap keepers carry the Spectre emblem, the cufflinks and cord bracelet are finished in matching Spectre execution, and the leather travel pouch is black.
