The CK 2998 has since become a favourite among watch enthusiasts and Speedmaster fans worldwide. This year’s updated models continue the 1959 design, featuring a symmetrical 39.70 mm polished-brushed stainless steel case. The watch’s black aluminium bezel includes the essential tachymeter scale and a “Dot Over Ninety,” a hallmark of early Speedmaster models.
Underneath a hesalite-like sapphire crystal, OMEGA has introduced a CVD-coated grey-blue dial, reminiscent of the CK 2998 watches from the 1960s. Vintage Super-LumiNova fills the hour markers and Alpha hands, while the central white varnished “Baton” seconds hand matches the dial’s transferred markings. OMEGA’s heritage is reflected in two vintage logos, one on the dial and another on the crown. The caseback continues this theme with a Seahorse medallion and engravings, “SPEEDMASTER,” “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE,” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962.”
Today’s iteration of this classic timepiece is powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, an evolution of the original Calibre 321. This movement provides exceptional precision, performance, and magnetic resistance. Customers can choose from three models, available with either a black or brown leather strap, or a full metal bracelet with “flat links” and OMEGA’s patented comfort release adjustment system. Each watch is presented in a special box, complete with an exclusive LEGENDARY MOONWATCH leaflet, celebrating OMEGA’s ongoing legacy in space exploration.
