Who are St Luke’s?
St Luke's Hospice Plymouth is an independent charity dedicated to providing specialist care and support for individuals facing progressive, life-limiting illnesses across Plymouth, South West Devon, and East Cornwall.
At the heart of St Luke’s mission is a commitment to ensuring that everyone in need receives expert, compassionate care. The hospice supports over 300 patients and their families at any given time, delivering essential services through a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists.

Beyond patient care, St Luke’s plays a vital role in educating the community about end-of-life care, empowering individuals and families with the knowledge and support they need during life’s most challenging moments. Through their tireless work, they continue to bring comfort, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.
The charity itself is incredibly close to us, and especially so for Adam Spiers:
‘Having supported St Luke’s for over 30 years, we are incredibly proud of the invaluable work they do. My father, Michael Spiers, was cared for by St Luke’s until his passing in August 1999, and our family will always be deeply grateful for the compassion and support they provided during such a difficult time. Each year, we are honoured to give back to this incredible charity, helping them continue their vital work across the South West, ensuring more families receive the same outstanding care and comfort that meant so much to us.’
What is the Midnight Walk?
The Midnight Walk, taking place on 11th July 2025, is a powerful fundraising event in support of St Luke’s Hospice.
From young children to teenagers, and from strollers to seasoned, long-distance striders, everyone is welcome to be part of the action. And this year, for the first time, there is a choice of five routes rather than the traditional three. Simply pick the distance that appeals to you – 2.5, 5, 7.5 or 13.5 miles.

Midnight walkers will enjoy entertainment at the fan zone at Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park Stadium before setting off on their chosen circular route, which brings them back to the stadium. Along the way, they will pass local landmarks and make moonlit memories as they march in solidarity with St Luke’s patients and their families.
Since its launch in 2007, Midnight Walk has raised £2.5m to help the hospice provide its compassionate care and support to communities across Plymouth and surrounding areas so that no-one with terminal illness needs to die alone or in distress. But providing its services free of charge does not come cheap to the charity, which looks after patients at home and at its specialist unit. While the hospice receives some government funding, it relies on the generosity of its supporters to help meet the majority of its costs.
Registration for Midnight Walk costs £24 for age 11 and over, and £12 for under-10s, including your striking pink event tee-shirt and medal.
