Servicing your Rolex at Michael Spiers

Posted on 21 August 2025

From the conception of a Rolex watch to the time it leaves the workshops, every step of its development and manufacture follows a single critical requirement: quality. As a result, there is no limit on how long a Rolex watch can keep working, being handed down from one generation to the next, and living several lives. Built to last a lifetime and beyond, these timepieces are crafted to tell their own stories and become pieces of your history.

Our Plymouth Rolex Servicing Experts

Alex and Marco

Alex and Marco

With a combined wealth of experience and passion for horology, Alex and Marco are our esteemed watchmakers at Michael Spiers, each bringing a unique depth of expertise to the Rolex service team.

Alex, a Rolex-trained watchmaker, has been honing his craft since 2007 and has been part of our Michael Spiers since October 2021. He specialises in movement servicing, and greatly admires the precise engineering of a Rolex timepiece.

Marco, who began his watchmaking career in 1995, joined the team in June this year. Deeply fascinated by the complexity of mechanical movements, he finds immense satisfaction in the moment a watch is restored to perfect timekeeping. Together, Alex and Marco exemplify the meticulous craftsmanship and dedication synonymous with the Rolex name.

The Rolex Service Procedure

The Rolex Service Procedure is designed to ensure that every timepiece leaving a Rolex workshop complies with its original functional and aesthetic specifications. Each movement is completely overhauled and each case and bracelet is meticulously refinished to restore its lustre. Timekeeping accuracy and waterproofness are rigorously tested to guarantee the level of quality and reliability you naturally expect from a Rolex watch.

The two-year Service Guarantee

After a complete service, your Rolex is covered by a two-year Service Guarantee. This guarantee excludes any damage or deterioration that results from an accident or from mishandling of the watch. Any intervention by a non-Rolex-authorised third party or the addition of any non-Rolex-manufactured parts or accessories will void the Service Guarantee.

An Interview with our Head of Servicing, Lee.

Service Centre Manager, Lee Treliving, has been at the helm of our Rolex Servicing team since its opening.  With over 18 years in the industry, Lee oversees all of our service centres across the South West to ensure the best quality servicing for all watches in our care.

We sat down with Lee to discuss a few popular questions about servicing your timepiece.

Why is servicing your rolex important?

“The most important reason to service your Rolex is to ensure its longevity. Rolex timepieces are crafted to last forever, and with proper care, they can be passed down through generations to become notable heritage pieces in your family.

We recommend servicing your Rolex every 10 years, but, there is no harm in checking in your timepiece in between this if you so wish. You know your watch best, so if any issues arise, contact our expert team to complete a full service or repair your timepiece.”

How long does it take to service a rolex?

“Depending on the make and model of your timepiece, your servicing can take from 3 to 6 weeks. For more modern models, made in the last 10 years, you can expect your service to be completed in 3 to 4 weeks, which includes a final week of testing to ensure your timepiece is working correctly, at it’s best functionality and looking polished.

For classic models, made up to 35 years ago, you can expect your servicing to last from 5 to 6 weeks. This is because some components may need to be delivered from the timepiece's origin country like Geneva, for older movements and different or limited edition materials."

Can my Vintage Rolex be serviced at Michael Spiers?

“Some Vintage Rolex timepieces, often over 35 years old, can still be serviced. The incredible mechanics of this Swiss horological expert means that these timepieces are built to last forever, without becoming compromised.

If you have a vintage Rolex, we would love to discuss with you how this can be maintained.”
