The TUDOR Black Bay: A Watch Crafted to Dive
Introduced in 2012, the Black Bay collection marked a turning point for TUDOR, signaling a return to its dive-watch legacy with a design that draws inspiration from the brand’s historic submariner models of the 1950s and 60s.
With its signature snowflake hands, first seen in TUDOR watches issued to the French Navy, and its vintage aesthetic, the Black Bay successfully bridges past and present. Beyond its nostalgic appeal, the collection showcases modern engineering, including the introduction of TUDOR's in-house calibres. Over the years, the Black Bay has expanded into a versatile family of models, each echoing Tudor’s maritime heritage while embracing contemporary watchmaking excellence.

Introducing The Lagoon Blue: Straight from Paradise
Black Bay 54 M79000-0001
The TUDOR Black Bay "Lagoon Blue" evokes a feeling of warmth. The light blue dial complemented with a five-link stainless steel bracelet with a polished and satin finish is reminiscent of a paradise landscape. One of the most identifiable components of this timepiece is the sand-textured blue dial. Usually, we have seen Black Bays sport a black, white and even red dial, but the Black Bay 54 “Lagoon Blue” sports a light blue with a sand-like texture.
Diving into The Past With TUDOR
Drawing inspiration from the Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922, the Black Bay 54 “Lagoon Blue” is perhaps one of the most true-to-form Black Bay timepieces in TUDOR’s collection.
The Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922 was known to have been evaluated and adopted by the French and US Navies, and widely used by professional divers thanks to its water resistance, sophisticated design and innovative calibres. The Black Bay 54 follows this tradition with thoroughly modern touches like the subtle sand-textured dial and “T-fit” clasp.
A Striking Look for Summer
On the first glance, this Black Bay strikes a different tome to the others in the collection. The dial sets itself apart and offers a light, colourful look, brightening up the steel-polished bracelet and reflecting against the white hour and minute markers.
The 37mm case is a great size for both men and women, sitting nicely atop of a wrist with a case thickness of only 11.2mm, ideal for those day-to-evening holiday moments or beach day adventures. The bezel features a unidirectional 60-minutes in stainless steel with mirror-polished steel insert, devoid of minute graduations, to ensure simplicity and legibility.
The five-link bracelet is a more traditional look for this TUDOR Black Bay, similar to that of the bracelets on the Black Bay 31, 36, 39 and 41. Fitted with the “T-fit” rapid clasp movement means that the wearer can make changes to the strap in a movement, ensuring continuous comfortability.
Years of Innovation
As always, TUDOR have kept their traditional waterproofness of up to 200m to ensure this timepiece is still suited to diving. The calibre inside is the MT5400 (COSC), and self-winding mechanical movement with a bidirectional rotor system, so you can be sure that your new timepiece is reliable. Like many other Black Bay’s, this 54 “Lagoon Blue” has a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, for practicality and reliability of the timepiece.
